Erol Güngör in the Context of the Institutionalisation of Philosophy and the Social Sciences in Turkey
As part of this week’s Friday Talks, we commemorated the late Erol Güngör, one of the leading figures in Turkish intellectual life, with respect and gratitude on the 43rd anniversary of his passing.
The programme examined the Turkish intellectual tradition shaped by the lineage of Ziya Gökalp, Mümtaz Turhan and Erol Güngör, alongside perspectives on national cultural understanding, social change, modernisation and social psychology. Participants had the opportunity to assess the intellectual legacy of the Turkish intellectual world spanning from the past to the present, whilst engaging in a fruitful discussion on Erol Güngör’s academic work and his contributions to our intellectual landscape.
Enriched by the valuable insights of our speaker, Prof. Dr. Levent Bayraktar, a faculty member at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, the programme proved to be an enlightening and productive gathering for the participants. We would like to thank our speaker for his contributions and valuable insights, as well as all participants who showed an interest in the programme.
